Report: P2P, Porn Traffic Both Down

CYBERSPACE — Peer-to-peer file-sharing and adult traffic both saw decreases in Internet traffic, according to a report released by a German tech company.

Ipoque makes computer hardware, and as such, they have access to specialized equipment that can track Internet traffic in great detail. They just released their report for 2008, and according to leading tech blog ArsTechnica lent their support to Ipoque's analysis, despite the fact that Ipoque only draw data from participating servers.

According to the report, P2P traffic is till huge around the globe, with BitTorrent and eDonkey as the most popular torrent-trackers, but overall P2P traffic is down. RapidShare and Megaupload, which both offer video-sharing services of some kind, also popped up on Ipoque's radar as popular destinations.

The report included good news for adult content producers who are worried about protecting their copyrights. The sharing of adult content went down at roughly the same rate as the sharing of movies in general. One area of sharing that did see a rise was video games.

In addition, websites that offer Flash-based videos became more popular in every region of the planet except for the Middle East, where many governments have outlawed sites that offer Flash Videos.
